P O NFDI4Culture Task Areas "Standards, Data Quality, Curation" and "Cultural Research Data Academy" as well as the Documentation Section of the German Museums Association cordially invite you to the workshop Effective Management for Better Data Quality (Focus on Data Management Plans) on June 23rd 2023, 9 am - 1 pm (CET). The event will be held online and in German language. Participation is free of charge. Increasingly, new use scenarios of data held by collections require targeted steps to define and implement the quality of these data in the context of their use and to maintain the level achieved in day-to-day operations. Good and sensible management is essential for the successful implementation of such standards and for the regular testing of the quality of collection data. This is where the second workshop in the series comes in: We approach management on three levels: institution, project, data. The focus will be on data management plans (DMPs), which are considered key elements of good data management. They are suitable for both project data and inventory data and are often modularly adapted to different application scenarios, e.g. by tailoring them to specific target groups, linking them with digital tools and actively integrating them into work processes. What can and should a DMP do for a collection? How can curators use DMPs to continually ensure the quality of the collection data? What criteria make a good DMP template? The practical feasibility will be demonstrated in two keynote lectures, which will deal with the implementation of a digital mission statement for one's own institution through strategic management. In group work, a DMP will first be examined for aspects of data quality. Afterwards, the participants can choose between the creation of a DMP for a model project or the development of a specific DMP module. Programme: - Data quality as a management task - institution, project, data (C. Krause) - Vision DMP (joint exercise) - The data management plan at the Württembergisches Landesmuseum (N. Klingspor) - Project mechanics in collection cataloguing at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin - Lessons learned (A. Hoffmann) - Data quality in DMP - analysis of a template (group work) - Creating a DMP for a model project or designing an extension module (group work) - Questions, discussion and reflection The event is primarily aimed at digital managers or digital curators for cultural heritage collections and related projects, as well as persons involved in process management, the development of digital collection strategies, data publication and consulting in these areas. We look forward to a large attendance! This workshop is part of the series Four steps to more sustainability. Data quality strategies for museums and collections. Information on the other workshops can be found here: Workshop 1: Making data quality tangible. Quality criteria and purposes of data use, June 16th 2023, 9 am - 1 pm, online. Workshop 3: Setting the course for more quality: Structuring object-related information, using controlled vocabularies, June 30th 2023, 9am-1pm, online. Workshop 4: Subsequent quality improvement: Analysing, cleaning and enriching data, July 7th 2023, 9am-1pm, online. Speakers Noreen Klingspor (Landesmuseum Württemberg Stuttgart) Anke Hoffmann (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin) The event will be chaired by Celia Krause and Angela Kailus (Deutsches Dokumentationszentrum für Kunstgeschichte - Bildarchiv Foto Marburg, Philipps-Universität Marburg).
